ones 'clicks' with Smalling

Manchester United's Phil Jones believes he is capable of creating a reliable defensive partnership with Chris Smalling.
The England duo played together for the Under-21s at international level and are contenders to form the heart of the back four in the long term at Old Trafford after being paired in the middle for the first time this season during the recent win at West Brom.
Smalling missed out on the subsequent defeat to Liverpool through injury but he may be available again soon with games coming up against Olympiacos, West Ham and Manchester City.
Due to their versatility – both Smalling and Jones are also capable of operating at right-back – there is the possibility of them being joined by another centre-half such as the currently sidelined Jonny Evans and still managing to develop their on-field relationship. 
When asked by UEFA.com which player he had the best understanding with on the pitch, Jones replied: "I think the first 'click' I really had was playing in the Under-21s with Chris Smalling at the back. I thought every time we played together, we understood each other's game and we complemented each other well. Hopefully that can kick off at Manchester United as well."
